Making Thank You Cards

When I was a child, my parents always encouraged me to make thank you cards. I think that this was because I would much prefer playing with paper, pencils and pens than sitting down and writing a letter. Making thank you cards worked on several levels. Whereas it was apparently it was quite a struggle to get me to write a letter, I would quite happily make a card and write a few words. It also gave the recipient a handmade card that might not have been perfect, but a card made by a child is always a little special. I often wonder if my parents had an additional motive - I spent ages making these cards, and while I was making cards I was not getting under their feet or arguing with my sisters!

This tradition has stayed with me over the years, and while I do enjoy writing letters, I also love making cards. I find this a really great way to relax after the hectic build up to the holidays.
