'Merry Christmas From Santa' Christmas Card

Kate Pullen
This card has been created by making a background from stamped holly images. The background was stamped using handmade foam stamps. Foam stamps are perfect for making backgrounds and are readily available in a wide range of shapes and styles.

Basic foam stamps are also simple to make. Either draw a shape freehand or use a template. The holly foam stamp was made using one of the free templates for making Christmas foam stamps - Christmas Foam Stamp Templates. See How to Make Foam Stamps for more details.

A vintage Christmas themed postcard has been added to the front of the greeting card to add extra detail. The vintage postcard is 'Merry Christmas From Santa' from the About.com Collectibles site. Guide, Barbara Crews, has a range of vintage, collectible postcards and other interesting information. This postcard is in black and white, therefore presenting plenty of opportunity to add color.

Materials

  • A greeting card blank or a piece of cardstock folded in half
  • Rubber stamped paper, trimmed to fit the card
  • Print of postcard, trimmed to shape - (the card in the picture can be found here - Merry Christmas From Santa). This has been reduced in size by 50 percent and printed on paper.
  • Glue, glitter glue, ribbon and other embellishments as required.

Instructions

  1. Using the glue, attach the stamped background paper to the cardstock
  2. Attach the copy of the postcard to the backing paper
  3. Add a row of glue dots around the edge
  4. Add a small ribbon or other embellishments to add further accents to the project

Ideas for Variations

It is so easy to vary the design of Christmas cards and to add a personal touch. Here are some ideas for adapting this simple card:
  • Try rubber stamping a sentiment instead of adding a ribbon embellishment
  • Place the copy of the postcard at the top or bottom of the card, this will give a space for adding a few words or simply for showing off the stamped background!
  • When using black and white postcards, instead of coloring the card, why not make a black and white background for a mono-chromic design
