Heat embossing as a resist

Heat embossing as a resist

Kate Pullen
The shiny raised surface of a heat embossed rubber stamped image creates a perfect resist and can be used to create many interesting and unusual effects. This is a very simple process yet can be used in many ways. The shiny surface of the heat embossed image 'resists' inks and watercolor paints, therefore the color of the embossed image remains unchanged. By varying the combination of colors, cardstock or paper, embossing powders and inks a wide variety of different effects can be achieved.

Materials required for this project:
  • Rubber stamps as required (any type of rubber stamp will be perfect for this project
  • Slow drying or embossing inks (pigment inks are ideal for this)
  • Embossing powders
  • Heat tool
  • Paper or cardstock as required
  • Clean sheet of scratch or scrap paper for working on
