What Are Glue Dots?:

Glue dots (also sometimes known as 'adhesive dots' or 'glue spots') are, as the name suggests, small dots of adhesive. These dots are tacky all over and have the consistency of a thick gel. The dots are available in a variety of sizes and bond to most surfaces, meaning that they are suitable for many projects.

Glue dots are typically sold sandwiched between protective paper in strips, on sheets or on a roll. They are available in various sizes, which includes the depth as well as the circumference of the dot. Thick dots are ideal for creating a three dimensional effect, smaller dots are better for flat designs.

Using Glue Dots:

Glue dots also vary in tackiness. Some of the low tack dots are repositionable whereas the high tacky dots form a permanent bond with a surface. Repositionable glue dots are ideal for using with techniques such as masking or for making a temporary attachment to a project. Many glue dots are acid free and this makes them ideal for use in heirloom projects.

Glue dots are highly convenient and are simple to use. It is simply a case of dabbing a dot onto a surface and removing the backing paper. No special equipment is needed and these are good for youngsters as well as adults.

Buying Glue Dots:

Glue dots are readily available from stamping supply and craft stores, as well as stationery stores, in a range of different sized packs. Some suppliers of glue dots include:

Tips for Using Glue Dots:

Glue dots are straightforward to use, however here are some tips to help ensure perfect results:
  • If you are only going to buy one size of glue dot, buy the smaller, thinner sizes as it is possible to use more than one to give extra thickness.
  • Keep glue dots in the packaging and on the protective paper before use. A couple of loose glue dots can cause havoc in a work basket!
  • For best results do not handle the glue dots as the oil from fingers can reduce the tackiness of the dot.
  • Sprinkle glitter over a glue dot or press beads into the surface to use as embellishments.
