There are many ways of coloring rubber stamped images. While specialist paints, chalks and pens all offer an effective option, there are times when either you don't have these to hand or are perhaps looking for a quick color option. This is also a good way to create complementary color schemes.
Most water based pigment inks can easily be turned into paints. When using a rainbow or multi-color ink pad this gives access to a wide pallet of colors.

Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Quick
Here's How:
- Break off a piece of foil which is larger than the ink pad.
- Take the ink pad and press it firmly in the middle of the piece of foil. If you are using different colors press them close to each other on the foil.
- Use a paint brush and wet the ink on the foil and use this as a paint. Use the foil as a pallet and mix colors and shades as required.
- When finished fold the foil so the colors are flat in the middle, this will stop the inks from drying out for later use.
Tips:
- Blend colors together to increase your range of options
- Add more water for pale colors and less for deep, vibrant colors
- A spot of black pigment ink will give added depth to the colors
- Painting on top of embossed images will help to stop the colors from running
- Any non porous surface will work, therefore acetate or film will be suitable should a piece of foil not be to hand.
