Simple Masking Technique

This is a very simple technique that can be adapted in a variety of ways. By stamping repeatedly over a piece of paper a block of color can be created. This technique can be taken one step further to produce bold shapes and patterns by using a mask. Use one of our shape templates from the template library or use a shape of your own to produce an interesting design for a card. Bold shapes work the best as fine or intricate shapes can get lost when stamped over. Clip art shapes would also work well.

This technique is particularly useful for occasions where you do not have the 'right' stamp to hand. The card in the picture clearly shows a shamrock, however you will notice if you look at the card carefully, that I did not use a shamrock stamp.

To create an image similar to the one shown, both the inner and outer part of the template are required. For the best results use a thin paper for the template rather than a thick cardstock.

Materials Required

• Paper shape to use as a template - I used this shamrock template
• Small rubber stamps
• Two different colored inks (dye inks are good for this project as they are quick drying)
• Greeting card blank or a piece of card folded in two
