May is Creative Beginnings month. This is the perfect opportunity to learn new skills, try new crafts or have a go at some new techniques. There are lots of different ways that rubber stamping can be used ranging from quick and simple projects through to complex works of art.

1st - Labor Day - in many countries the first of May is observed as a worker's holiday. If today is a holiday for you then set aside some time for your favorite rubber stamping project. If you are working today then why not make a greeting card for one of your colleagues to show them that they are appreciated.
1st - Anniversary the First Appearance of Batman - celebrate the world's favorite superhero with a suitable rubber stamping project. Why not use some of your favorite rubber stamps to create your own superhero or, failing that, how about making a cards for special superhero in your life. Use this bat template to make a custom foam stamp.
1st - Bread Pudding Recipe Exchange - share your favorite bread pudding recipe with others by decorating a recipe card with rubber stamps. There are many different types of bread pudding recipe available and if you're looking for inspiration then take a look at some of these bread pudding recipes.
1st - Lei Day - in Hawaii May Day is celebrated by the wearing of leis. These distinctive garlands are made and exchanged on the day. Make your own floral garlands with paper flowers, these make pretty gifts for family and friends or they could be used as decoration. Paper flowers are simple to make yet are very effective.
1st - National Egg Month - celebrate the beginning of national egg month with your own custom decorated eggs. These make attractive and unusual decorations such as egg mobiles. Use your favorite rubber stamps to create your own special designs.
2nd - Anniversary of the Death of Leonardo Da Vinci - mark this day by trying out some new painting techniques. Watercolor paints or watercolor pencils can create professional looking results. 2nd -National Homebrew Day - if you know someone who brews their own beer, make them some special bottle labels to celebrate the day. Add some appropriately themed rubber stamps to customize labels.
2nd - Birthday of David Beckham - make a soccer or football themed card for the budding David Beckham in your life.
3rd - Teacher Appreciation Week - show your appreciation for a teacher or school worker by making them a small rubber stamps gift during this week. Small gifts can be presented in rubber stamped gift bags or boxes.
4th - Star Wars Day - today is obviously the day to make something a little special for a Star Wars fan.
5th - Cinco de Mayo – have a Mexican party with some Mexican food and some brightly colored decorations. Paper chains are ideal party decorations. Another idea is to include a Cinco de Mayo puzzle. Cinco de Mayo puzzles are ideal for children and adults.
5th - Cartoonists' Day - quirky cartoon stamps are the ideal way to bring a touch of humor to a rubber stamping project. There are many different types of character or cartoon stamps available giving a wide choice. Pick appropriately themed captions or perhaps a joke or two.
6th - Great American Grump Out - can you go for 24 hours without being grumpy? Do your bit to help others by making them a small card or gift to make them smile.
7th (2011) - Astronomy Day - add some stars to a rubber stamping project. If you don't have a star rubber stamp try using a snowflake stamp. It can be surprising how many different looks you can get from a single stamp by varying colors and techniques. Using heat embossing as a resist is a particularly good way to create night sky themes.
7th - Anniversary of the Birth of Robert Browning - poetry and quotations are ideal for use as inspiration for rubber stamping projects. Use a line or two from your favorite poem or quotation and create a suitable design. For more about Robert Browning take a look at About.com Poetry.
8th - Anniversary of the Birth of Robert Johnson - a day for blues lovers to celebrate. Make a blues themed greeting cards or make a special custom CD case to mark the day.
9th - National Windmill Day - make a paper windmill or pinwheel to mark National Windmill Day in the Netherlands. Windmills and pinwheels are easy to make and can be customized with rubber stamps.
8th - Mother's Day [2011] - make a special gift for Mother's Day. Rubber stamping can be used in a variety of projects that are ideal for Mother's Day gifts. 10th - Anniversary Of the Birth of Fred Astaire - "Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but she did it backwards and in high heels" - this famous quote is fun to use in many rubber stamping projects. Why not have a go at using it for inspiration for a hand stamped card design.
11th - Children's Book Week - use your favorite rubber stamps to create a unique storybook for a young child. This makes a thoughtful and unique gift.
